Furniture Restoration

A well-made piece of furniture is built to last a lifetime or more — and when it loosens, splits or loses a turned foot, it is almost always worth repairing rather than replacing.

We restore heritage furniture by hand: regluing and rebuilding joints, splicing in matching timber, turning replacement spindles and finials on the lathe, and refinishing so the repair disappears into the piece.

What we do

Heritage tables, dressers, cabinets and chairs repaired in the original timber, by hand, on the original profiles.

  • Tables, dressers, cabinets, chairs and cabinetmaking repairs
  • Loose and broken joints reglued and rebuilt
  • Turned feet, finials and spindles replaced to match
  • Veneer and moulding repairs in matching timber
  • Refinishing — stripping, recolouring and waxing to match

How it works

From inspection to installation.

  1. 01

    Assess

We examine the piece, identify what has failed, and agree the scope before work begins.

  2. 02

    Repair

Joints are rebuilt, matching timber spliced in, and missing turned parts made on the lathe.

  3. 03

    Refinish

The repair is decorated and finished to match the original so it blends seamlessly into the piece.

Questions

Common questions

Is it worth restoring old furniture?
Usually, yes — quality pieces were built to be repaired. Rebuilding joints, splicing matching timber and turning replacement parts is almost always sounder, and more sympathetic, than replacing a piece.
Can you replace a missing turned part?
Yes. We turn replacement feet, finials and spindles by hand on the lathe to match the surviving originals.
